Cootamundra Sprints

Saturday, 2 September 2023

Photos by Tim Shellshear, Jeremy Morris and Chris Ioannidis. Report Jeremy Morris.

The VSCCA Cootamundra sprints were held in perfect weather conditions on Saturday, 2 September 2023 at the Cootamundra aerodrome.

There was a good entry list from the VSCCA, Daimler Club, Triumph Club, Bathurst Feral Ute Car and Truck Club and others. The Holdens and Fords added not only colour and movement but a clear demonstration of the benefit of cubic inches. Read more below the photos.

Enjoy the photos. As always, the best way to view the photographs below is to click an image to enlarge it and then click on the arrows to go through the entire collection.

Highlights? Hard to say really.

Graham Lawrence drove to the event in his XKSS replica competed and drove home. Stunning car. At the other end of the spectrum we had Dermer Bennet in his perfect Austin Super Sports.

In between there were MG’s (including the Q type bodied TC of young John Lackey which looked stunning and went very well), Rees Mackay in his Buchanan, Stephen Figgis in his SP 250 (asking if he had the hard top on, could he dispense with the helmet), Greg Mackie in his Morgan… a full list will be published later. The Snapes were big supporters again, having three cars on display and three competing. Paul Hamilton had the OM racer there but it failed to proceed, cutting short his day.

Trevor Montgomery drove his XK 120 from Melbourne and Peter Donald (current President VSCC (Vic)) drove his Morris Cowley flatnose from Castlemaine in Victoria.

We had big support from the Daimler and Triumph Clubs and a good number of Holdens and Fords that added not only colour and movement, but a clear demonstration of the benefit of cubic inches.

There were a good number of members who attended to spectate and attend the dinner which was a great opportunity to catch up with members and old friends. It was great to see Paul Catt and Victoria come down from Bathurst despite Paul’s recent ill health.

Thank you to the team

As always, it is a team effort by the Club, and I would like to thank Tim Shellshear, Robert Phillips, John Lackey and Steve Morley for all their help and support at the event or behind the scenes. We could not have got this event “across the line” without them.
